Biographie
Véronique BRUNET is Associate Professor at the Physics Department of the University of Poitiers, France. She received her Ph.D. in Physical chemistry in 2000 at the University of Burgundy, where she worked on the “Synthesis and high-temperature reactivity of NbAl3 intermetallic compound. Influence of the synthesis method onto the oxidation resistance”. She accomplished her habilitation thesis to supervise research (Habilitation à diriger des recherches) untitled “Complex materials used by powder metallurgy: process-microstructure-properties relationships. Case of composites and nano-lamellar ternary phases” at the University of Poitiers in 2018.
At the Pprime Institute, she conducts research on the synthesis of bulk materials using powder metallurgy methods, and investigates mechanical and physico-chemical properties of ceramics, MAX phases, and metal matrix composites. Her current research interests focus on the understanding of the relationship between properties and micro or nano-structure of powder metallurgy end-products. She is co-authors of more than 55 papers in peer-review journals and one book chapter.
Recherche
Current research interest:
- Synthesis using powder metallurgy processes of bulk materials with controlled microstructure, optimized purity and density
- Investigation, in collaboration with colleagues, of the physico-chemical and mechanical properties of the as-synthesized materials in relation with their nano or micro-structure
The range of investigated properties being wide (oxidation resistance, mechanical properties, electrical properties…), a large variety of materials is examined: ceramics, MAX phases, intermetallics, metal matrix composites, both in the form of bulk materials and powders.
Areas of expertise:
- Synthesis and shaping by powder metallurgy of bulk materials (mechanical milling, hot isostatic pressing, pressureless-sintering …)
- Physico-chemical characterization of bulk and powder materials (optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction),
- Monitoring of phase transformations (thermogravimetric analysis, dilatometry),
- High-temperature oxidation of bulk and powder materials.
Enseignement
Teaching from Licence to Master degree (Department of Physics, University of Poitiers):
